The Annual event held at the welikada prisons on the 7th. Jan 2024 .
Every year Friends of Prisoners Children (FPC) organize an event at the Welikada Prison, where Long term convicted Prisoner’s Children are gifted with school provisions and their accomplishments are acknowledged and rewarded. It’s the only day in the year where these children get an opportunity to freely interact and spend a day with their parents without any restriction seated side by side as a family .
This is a project carried on over the past 19 years by FPC ( Friends of prisoners children ) started by Sr Immaculate a former principal of St Bridget’s convent along with a committee-a committed bunch of people ably supported and lead by Sr Chamari today .
Prisoner’s Children from homes -struggling with financial difficulties and other social issues are supported through this effort where they are given scholarships for the year( deposited to them monthly/ quarterly) plus stationary /exercise books /school bags and shoes gifted to them at this event .
On the 7th Jan 2024 These families were treated to breakfast and lunch arranged by FPC and an encouraging word shared by Sr Maryann the provincial head of the Good Shepard order of nuns .
The musical entertainment was provided by Mr Hector Dias of D major accompanied by the prisons band
