Rohitha Ananda

My name is Rohitha Ananda. I am writing this to share my family’s grief with the only people I can share it with, the Aunt and Uncle who give me this scholarship. This year has not been a good one for me as my only strength and security, since my father was sent to prison, my golden mother, who nurtured me, has left this world. In my last letter I told you she was ill with cancer and that it was incurable. She could not be cured. I have now lost my mother as well. I don’t have my father. I now live with my mother’s father and mother. My grandfather and grandmother find it difficult to look after me. I manage to survive on the sponsorship given to me. It’s not like when my mother was alive, my education is being held back little by little. My older brothers forget to care for me. My grandmother and grandfather are very old. They cannot work. So Aunty, the sponsorship you give me is very valuable. I addition to that I go to houses and collect bottles and sell them for a small amount of money which I give my grandmother. I go to collect bottles after school. I spend my innocent life suffering. If I did not get the scholarship what would I do? I am able to go to school because of you Aunty an Uncle. May your future lives be blessed for making it possible for me to attend school and for helping me for so long. I shall end now. God bless both of you.
